When the boats come in, the performance moves to the quay: café terraces, artisans, musicians. Those who came by yacht step ashore and make a show of mingling with the landlocked audience. The town serves them, then takes itself back. By night the crews fill the cafés and bars, and the money has gone somewhere quieter.
